Session One: June 17-June 28

Chinese Theater Show

There is a sea of idioms in Chinese. They are usually four-character long. They come from stories and tell lessons learned.  Students will learn and act out Chinese idioms stories. For example, “huà bǐng chōng jī” means to draw a cake to satisfy one’s hunger (feed on illusions). Students will be able to showcase their theater skills as well as their Chinese proficiency.

Session Two: July 1-July 12 (No class July 4 and July 5)

Chinese Calligraphy & Painting

Start the morning with calming Chinese calligraphy and painting! Students will make ink from ink stone, use Chinese paint brush to write characters on rice paper. Students will also be able to use colorful ink to draw anything from a traditional Chinese painting to an imaginative masterpiece.

Session Two: July 1-July 12 (No class July 4 and July 5)

Chinese Dance & Singing

Chinese dance is full of color, graceful movements, and symbolic meaning. Students will dance with fans, ribbons, and their bodies! There will be singing too! Students can sing while dancing, dance without singing, or sing alone. Songs will be in Chinese so students will learn Chinese words through lyrics. Get ready to learn Chinese with songs and movements!

Session Three: July 15-July 26
8:30-12:00 | Grades 4-6 
Chinese Cooking

Do you love Chinese food? Can you imagine making Chinese food yourself? This is the class you are looking for! Students will be able to visit local Asian groceries, talk about Chinese cooking utensils, study menus from local Chinese restaurants, and make some dishes (e.g., stir-fry rice, dumplings, noodle soups and etc.). The best part, this is a cook-n-eat class! Students will be able to finish the class with a Chinese lunch they make.
